Welcome to Heartland Emergency Preparedness! My name is Aaron Cluff, and I’m an experienced emergency management professional with over a decade of experience in crisis response, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery.
What sets me apart is my diverse background that spans both the public and private sectors. I currently serve as a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Specialist, where I develop comprehensive plans to ensure the resilience of critical government functions during emergencies.
Prior to founding Heartland Emergency Preparedness, I served thirteen years in the U.S. Army as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician, leading complex operations in high-risk environments. I later became the Emergency Management Coordinator for seven Veterans Long-Term Care Facilities, guiding them through COVID and numerous other emergencies. This dual experience has equipped me with a sharp eye for risk, decisive crisis leadership, and a deep understanding of the value of precise, actionable planning.

In addition to my practical experience, I hold several certifications that demonstrate my expertise:
- Certified Associate Business Continuity Professional
- ISO 22301-2019 Certified Lead Auditor for Business Continuity Management Systems
- FEMA certifications (ICS100, ICS200, ICS300, ICS400, IS405, IS540, IS700, IS800, PDS)
- EOD Tech 2 International Mine Action Standards Certification
- Joint Asymmetric Threat Awareness and Counter Course
- Graduate of the Defense Nuclear Weapons School
I’m also an academic scholar, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management and a Master’s in Cybersecurity – a critical component of modern emergency preparedness.
Through this blog, I aim to share my knowledge and insights to help individuals, families, and organizations across the Heartland region become more resilient in the face of natural disasters, cyber threats, and other emergencies. My goal is to provide actionable advice, best practices, and real-world experiences to empower readers to take proactive steps towards preparedness.
I invite you to explore the blog, join the conversation, and together, let’s make our communities more secure and ready to respond to whatever challenges may arise.
